About Us
The Eating Disorders Recovery Center of Western New York (EDRCWNY) is one of three centers supported by the New York State Department of Health. The centers form an integrated network of specialists that provides a full range of comprehensive services for individuals with eating disorders and their families. Each center arranges case management services, sponsors programs to increase awareness, early identification and referral, as well as participates in collaborative research. Based on legislation developed by Senate Majority Leader Joseph A. Bruno and Assemblyman Felix W. Ortiz signed into law in 2004, all centers follow the same guidelines, which ensures the quality and continuity of services offered statewide.
The EDRCWNY is available to help individuals suffering from eating disorders and their families heal physically and emotionally from the impact of the illness. Eating Disorder Specialists throughout the EDRCWNY understand the biological, psychological, and socio-cultural risk factors that create and perpetuate eating disorders. They also understand that eating disorders are "diseases of disconnection," i.e., they disconnect an individual from herself/himself and from others. Providers in the EDRCWNY empower patients to re-connect with their genuine thoughts, feelings, and needs and with others in their journey toward recovery. The EDRCWNY is here to share hope that recovery is possible.
