Hooves and Hearts (Equine-Assisted Program)

In collaboration with EquuStrong, we offer a pioneering program that blends evidence-based eating disorder care with equine-assisted therapy (EAT). Together, we are delivering innovative, relationship-focused programming that strengthens connections, emotional regulation, and family support.

Hooves & Hearts Program

  • Pilot program offered to adolescents and young adults in active eating disorder treatment along with their families

  • Combines multi-family therapy group principles with equine assisted therapy to strengthen connection, communication, and trust within and between families

  • Families who participated reported

    • improved connection between parent and adolescent

    • reduced depressive and eating disorder symptoms

    • improved quality of life

Who Can Participate

Adolescents and young adults in treatment, along with their caregivers and siblings (ages 7 and up).

Participating families must be actively connected to WNYCCCED staff or services.

Note: All activity is “unmounted” (no horseback riding). No prior horse experience is needed—just a willingness to participate and grow together.
